FC United of Manchester Academy 'A' team completed their final AoC Sport North West Men's Championship Invitational league fixture of the 2021-22 season with this narrow 2-4 defeat against iSports FC Altrincham 1sts at Manor Farm, Timperley on Wednesday afternoon.
The home side started the livelier and it was perhaps no surprise when they opened the scoring on just 6 minutes when their No. 9 netted following a breakaway, and the same player then nearly added a second on 18 minutes, hitting an upright.
On 23 minutes, FC United drew level when the industrious DYLLAN CLARKE unleashed a low shot from outside the area which arrowed into the corner of the Altrincham net.
That made the half time score 1-1, but the home side then regained the lead on 73 minutes when their No. 9 grabbed his second.
A close range finish on 77 minutes from the Altrincham No. 11 further extended the home side's advantage before an acute-angled drive from EMMANUEL JOHNSON pulled one back a couple of minutes later to set up a competitive final ten minutes.
The home side then made sure of the result with a breakaway 91st minute goal from their substitute No. 17 to make the final score iSports FC Altrincham 4 FC United of Manchester Academy 'A' team 2.
The defeat means that the Young Reds finish the season in sixth position (of eight) with a record of Played 14, Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 9, Goals scored 36, Conceded 55, Points 13.
Emmanuel Johnson and Lewis Ursa were joint top goalscorers with five goals each, and Renato Neves, George Kamara and Aaron Hughes all contributed with four goals apiece.
