Match Report

The young reds were given an object lesson in what it takes to win a football game by Warrington today as they found themselves on the end of a 6-2 hiding from an all together hungrier outfit. FC started badly and continued in much the same vein throughout the game. In the first half hour the visitors had free headers at three different corners without making any of them count. Warrington took the lead on the half hour mark when a backward pass from Connor Naughton was picked up by Dylan Glass and lashed into the roof of the net. The reds claimed the goal should have been disallowed as a linesman flagged for offside which for the above reason was ignored. They should have doubled their lead just before half time when they were awarded an extremely fortunate penalty as Alex Stones appeared to make a perfectly good tackle. Unfortunately Alex was dismissed for his reaction to the decision. Jonathan Beisty, one of the few players to emerge with any credit from the day, guessed right and saved the kick. The second half started with FC benefitting from an equally poor decision when a corner was awarded by a linesman not five yards from the challenge. Theo Kidd, who joins Beisty on the list for feint praise headed home as the ball bounced around the box. The rest of the game belonged to Warrington as they ruthlessly exploited the man advantage, Scott Barker, Dylan Glass and James Anderson shared the goals although Kial Callacher did score in injury time make it 5-2 before Glass completed the scoring. FC United of Manchester: Jonathan Beisty, Alex Stones, Josh Smethurst (Andy Lee 70 mins), Richard Smith, James Brooks, Kial Callacher, Sam Howell (Matthew Hassall 70 mins), Connor Naughton, Theo Kidd (Luke Walker 79 mins), Matthew Boland, Jonathan Poizer. Sub not Used: Kyle Cunningham. Goals: Theo Kidd & Kial Callacher Cautioned: James Brooks & Josh Smethurst. Sent Off: Alex Stones.
