FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 4 ROCHDALE AFC YOUTH 3
FC United of Manchester Youth completed their National League u19 Alliance ’J’ Division league campaign with this 4-3 home win against Rochdale AFC Youth on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday afternoon.

This was despite the visitors taking the lead on 13 minutes when TYLER SMITH fired a low shot past Tom Bamber and into the corner of the FC United net.

On the half hour mark, FC United of Manchester Youth drew level. Elliot Jorge Simoes Inacio went on a mazy run along the left goal-line before crossing for MASON GREGG to bundle the ball home from close range.

On 34 minutes, the Young Reds went 2-1 up. MASON GREGG was fouled inside the penalty area before picking himself up to send the ’keeper the wrong way from the resultant spot kick.

Within a minute of the second half restart, it was 3-1. NELSON ONWUSIRI was allowed to run in at goal unopposed from the half-way line, before steering the ball past Mitchell Clarke in the Rochdale AFC goal.

On 62 minutes, Elliot Jorge Simoes Inacio saw his goalbound effort parried by the visiting ’keeper, but MAX LEWENS was on hand to knock the ball over the line, to make the score 4-1.

A foul by Ben Fletcher allowed TYLER SMITH to reduce the leeway from the penalty spot on 73 minutes and TAYLOR METCALF’s close range goal on 82 minutes made it 4-3 as FC United were forced to hang on to their narrow lead for the dying minutes.

The win was the FC United of Manchester Youth team’s tenth of the league campaign (out of eighteen games) with Max Lewens finishing as FC’s leading youth team goalscorer with 17 goals from 18 league + cup appearances.

Mason Gregg appeared in 20 out of a possible maximum of 21 league + cup fixtures.

Depending on results elsewhere in the remaining fixtures, the Young Reds will finish in a top half position in season 2017/2018 in either fourth or fifth place in the ten team ’J’ Division.
