FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 2 NANTWICH TOWN YOUTH 1
FC United of Manchester Youth are through to the next round of the FA Youth Challenge Cup following a hard-fought 2-1 home Preliminary Round win against Nantwich Town Youth on the Broadhurst Park main pitch on Wednesday evening.

FC United of Manchester’s Max Lewens came close to opening the scoring on 10 minutes when his looping shot rattled the crossbar but it was Nantwich Town Youth who actually took the lead when THOMAS JACKSON got on the end of a set piece on 30 minutes to steer the ball past goalkeeper Tom Bamber.

Four minutes later, it was 1-1. A high, hopeful punt into the visitors’ penalty area looked to have been comfortably fielded by Nantwich ’keeper Ollie Hawkins. However, the greasy, wet ball slipped from his grasp and DILLON KIRKMAN was on hand to bundle it home from close range.

Thirty seconds before half-time and the Young Reds took the lead. This time it was goalscorer turned provider as Dillon Kirkman threaded a through ball to MAX LEWENS, who made no mistake with a low shot into the corner.

Nantwich Town Youth tried their best to force their way back into the game in the second half, but home ’keeper Tom Bamber was in fine form, and wasn’t to be beaten again.

FC United of Manchester Youth now await the victors of the tie between West Didsbury and Chorlton Youth against City of Liverpool Youth. The away team were winning 3-0 when the match was abandoned at half-time due to a fire in one of the floodlights. That match is likely to be rearranged for next week, with FC United of Manchester Youth travelling to face the winners on Wednesday 19th September 2018.
