Match Report
Nantwich Town came to St Bride’s with a bag full of problems and things got even worse when FC United’s youth team scored an incredible 14 goals without reply.

Firstly kit problems meant the young Dabbers were unable to play in their standard green kit. The only option they had was a change kit of red and white striped shirts and red shorts. As such FC United played in their change strip of all blue.

Then illness deprived the visitors of their regular goalkeeper. In the end it was Nantwich who went home singing the blues.

Even so, credit has to be given to the visitors who played some good football throughout the 90 minutes and were unlucky not to have at least one consolation goal.

FC started as they meant to go on, James Brooks threaded a ball through to Luke Walker in the first minute and his cross was blocked for the first of two quick corners. Nantwich responded by going straight up the other end to force a corner of their own.

The first goal came in the sixth minute as Luke crossed from the left for Sam Howell; his first shot was saved by the keeper but he was first to react, netting the rebound. The favour was nearly returned two minutes later but despite several attempts the ball was cleared for a corner.

It was 2-0 after quarter of an hour when Theo on the right wing received the ball with his back to goal. He was able to spin round and lose his marker, and fire a low cross into the box whish was turned in by Sam.

The next fifteen minutes saw FC dominate the game, although Nantwich had a couple of shots go just wide the biggest culprit was Sam, spurning several chances for his hat trick. Joe Power hit the post after bursting forward and shooting.

Theo Kidd was provider for the third goal on the half hour as Ryan Wallwork fired home and scored his first to make it 4-0 shooting in off the post ten minutes later when released by Connor Naughton. The pair combined again on the stroke of half time, Theo’s fierce drive into the top corner burst the netting and the referee decided to take the interval whilst repairs took place.

The half time break saw Kial Callacher replace Kyle Cunningham in defence but was only a chance for the rest of the side to draw breath. They opened the second half with a three goal in five minute burst that showed the lesson provided by the first team at Burscough had been heeded.

It was 6-0 when Alex Stones burst down the wing and fired hard and low into the six yard box, the ball turned in by a Nantwich defender. 7-0 came a minute later when Theo completed his hat trick with a turn and shot after a pass from Sam.

Several people laid claim to the eighth goal as it rolled in. Theo Kidd had the initial shot and Luke looked to have touched it on the way. Ryan did get a touch, but only as the ball had crossed the line, post match discussion suggests that it was Theo’s goal.

Throughout the game Nantwich had tried hard to create chances themselves by playing pass and move football. A free kick from the edge of the box on the hour was saved on the hour as the goal scoring frenzy halted for a while. It was 9-0 after 68 minutes. Sam Howell took a short corner to Obrian Richards who crossed for Kial to head home.

Shortly afterwards Nantwich were desperately unlucky when a fierce drive beat Andrew Farrimond and looked to be heading into the far corner. Even the intervention of the post seemed only to be delaying matters; unfortunately it rolled across the goal line and hit the other post before being cleared.

The final 15 minutes saw a five goal burst which first saw the FC record for St Brides (10-0 against Lancaster) equalled and then blitzed. On 75 minutes it was 10-0 as Luke Walker finished another low and hard cross from Alex Stones. Sam Howell completed his own hat trick with a penalty in the 78th minute. Goalkeeper Farrimond declined the invitation to claim Captains Perogative and get his name on the score sheet.

Luke made it 12-0 in the 80th minute after some strong work in the box by Theo could have brought another penalty but the referee played advantage as the ball broke to Luke. Theo made it 13-0 after being played in by Sam.

The scoring was completed as the clocked reached 90 minutes when Sam fed Matthew Hassall who had come on as a late substitute for Ryan Wallwork. There may have been some injury time playable but the referee decided to take the chance to blow the final whistle, the game ended with a 14-0 win for FC and no doubt from the sidelines the coaching staff were able to take a message to the first team about what can be achieved by staying focussed for the whole game.
