Match Report
The FC United youth team entertained Hyde at the Lancaster Club and despite dominating possession allowed their guests to leave with a point in a 1-1 draw.

The reds could have been out of sight in the first ten minutes as five chances were spurned. Liam Ellis hit the post in the first minute and Charlie Doyle had a firm drive saved barely a minute later. Then Daniel Maynard crossed from the right and Matt Musialowski shot just wide followed by a neat move between Josh Smethurst Mike Taylor and Andy Lee saw a shot turned over by the visitors keeper. George Shaw tried to get in on the act but his header from a corner drifted wide. Hyde had their own first chance on the 15 minute mark when George West got beyond the defensive line but fired over.

FC opened the scoring midway through the half when Josh Smethurst fired home from a Daniel Maynard cross with a right foot that most on the bench thought was only for standing on. Unfortunately that was the limit of scoring for the reds, whilst they created plenty of chances, the shots were either off target or within a comfortable saving range for the keeper who was possibly the player of the match.

Hyde equalised midway through the second half from what seemed a generous free kick, but the shot from Rob Swallow flew beyond Joe Hankinson in the FC goal. The remainder of the game was a tale of missed chances as the lads fought hard to get back into the lead but without success.

Dave Brown was pleased with the overall effort of the team as a response to last week’s cup disappointment as a 2-0 lead would almost certainly have finished the contest. Sadly they paid an all too familiar price for failing to do so.
