FC UNITED oF MANCHESTER YOUTH 1 FC HALIFAX TOWN YOUTH 2
FC United of Manchester Youth team hosted FC Halifax Town Youth on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday afternoon in their latest pre-season fixture, narrowly going down by two goals to one.

The visitors started the first half the livelier of the two sides, hitting the foot of the post on 11 minutes and then finding the back of the net on 32 minutes only to see that particular effort ruled out for offside.

The West Yorkshiremen didn’t have to wait much longer for their opening goal which came just a minute later . JEAN JACQUES wrong-footing the home keeper from close range after collecting a quickly taken free kick.

On 47 minutes, the visitors might have added a second. Centre-back Ish Jobe was adjudged to have fouled a visiting player in his own penalty area but goalkeeper Mason Walker was equal to the resulting spot kick.

But on 49 minutes, FC Halifax Town did extend their lead, and in somewhat bizarre fashion. DYLAN BLACKLEDGE (o.g.) overhit a 40 yard back pass which evaded everyone before trundling into the FC United goal.

Three minutes later, the Young Reds pulled one back. Ellis O’Reilly setting up GEORGE BARBOZA who made no mistake from the edge of the six yard area.

And they might have snatched an equaliser with just four minutes remaining. Substitute JOSH MBALA looked to have bundled a cross from the left over the line. The match officials thought otherwise, however, as the Young Shaymen held out for a narrow 2-1 win.

FC United of Manchester Youth are next in pre-season action on Wednesday 21st August 2019 when they host Romulus FC Youth (Birmingham) on the Broadhurst Park 3G (KO 2 pm).
