FC United pick up vital three points to start a new era
FC United managed to put a massive week behind them off the field by claiming a vital three points with a 2-1 victory at home to Nuneaton Town on Saturday afternoon.

In the first ever game without Karl Marginson in charge of the team, the Reds put in a great performance and cut the gap between ourselves and the visitors down to just one point, with the Reds having played a game less.

The decision made earlier in the week has had a mixed reaction from fans to say the least, but what was important today that everybody at Broadhurst Park had one common goal and that was to get behind the boys from even before the very first whistle, making for one of the best atmospheres on the terraces for a good while.

FC started the game well, fired up to get the win from the off and had a few close chances with caretaker boss Greaves providing problems as part of a front two alongside Jason Gilchrist. It had looked like Greaves had netted goal number 98 for the Reds but he saw his effort ruled out for offside.

It wasn’t long until the Reds went in front though as Craig Lindfield’s ball from deep on the left found an unmarked Gilchrist at the far post who nodded home to give the home team the lead.

The visiting side had some good opportunities at the ned of the half and early on in the second but they found the ever impressive Lloyd Allinson too tough to crack, leaving them frustrated at not being able to level things up.

Just after the hour mark FC’s lead was doubled after a deep free kick into the box resulted in a goal mouth scramble with Jordan Fagbola scrambling the ball over the line to make it 2-0.

With less than ten minutes left the visitors managed to get back into things as substitute Callum Ball pounced on a fumble by Allinson in the box to make it 2-1.

Despite a couple of close calls late on FC managed to hold on to claim a priceless three points with the crowd chanting “Tommy Greaves’ red and white army??? at the end and a real feeling of optimism could be felt on the terraces.

The Reds have now lost just once in their last three league fixtures and now face the short trip to Edgeley Park in Stockport next weekend where a certain Mr Greaves had a memorable game on our last visit.

Man of the match: Joel Logan – worked tirelessly all afternoon, looking dangerous on the ball on top of putting in the work defensively as well.
