The FC United of Manchester Youth team exited the National League u19 Alliance League Cup competition at the Second Round stage following this 1-2 home reverse against Morpeth Town u19s on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday afternoon.
FC's Will Unsworth ought to have opened the scoring on 20 minutes but somehow contrived to miss, but the home side didn't have to wait too long before they did take a 29th minute lead, Jack Bennett setting up SANDRO DA COSTA who ran in on goal and rounded the visiting 'keeper Jack Smails before netting.
On 47 minutes, Morpeth drew level. A corner from the right wasn't cleared and NOAH MILLINGTON was on hand to steer the ball home from close range.
The winning goal came on 66 minutes. Jakub Zych was adjudged to have been fouled in the penalty area and BAILEY GELIHER stepped up to send home 'keeper Josh Brooks the wrong way from the 12 yard spot.
Substitute Iaia Balde came close to grabbing a 76th minute equaliser for the Young Reds, but his header, from a Toby Humphries free kick, only hit the crossbar rather than the back of the Morpeth net and so it was the visitors who progressed through to the Third Round.
