Match Report
It was part 1 of the Buxton weekend and a second half hat-trick for substitute Jack Tinning was the highlight of an 8-2 win for the reserves. There were also two from Connor Martin and goals from Dean Hope, Frank van Gils and Cameron Murray. Buxton’s goals were a header and a penalty from Jack Bradbury.

There was a bright start for FC United as a Martin shot in the second minute brought the first of many saves for Jordan Pierrepoint in the Buxton goal. Hope had a shot saved from a 30 yard free kick in the 9th minute but the opening goal was not to be delayed much longer. Two minutes later a move that included van Gils and Martin found its way to Hope. His shot wasn’t the best he has ever hit but somehow it squirmed its way past the keeper and rolled over the line. Martin made it 2-0 just three minutes later. Urged by the manager to press high up the field he pounced on a weak back pass he ran in and fired past Pierrepoint. Asked for his reaction Giggs said “It takes two to Tango.???

By then the frailty of the Buxton defence was clear to see, but they were able to counter that with a threat of their own up front. Bradbury quickly pulled a goal back, finding space in the box to head home a corner unchallenged. The game ebbed and flowed for twenty minutes. Hope, van Gils and Martin came close for FC United, Alex Airey threatened and Bradbury had two more good chances for Buxton.

It was FC United who added to the scoreline in the 37th minute. Hope fed Jason Fowles, whose shot was deflected for a corner. That was cleared only as far as van Gils who jinked into the box before firing home. Chris Hill was perhaps the man unluckiest not to score as he then had two efforts before half time.

The half time break saw Buxton make two changes as Noah Evans and Hayden Marklew came on for John Ballington and Ben Maskery. That and a slow start by FC saw Buxton dominate possession in the opening minutes, taking advantage in the 49th minute when Evans was fouled in the corner of the box and Bradbury converted the penalty. An immediate response from the bench saw Tinning and Michael Jones come on for Fowles and van Gils and FC took control of the game.

Having been on for less than five minutes, a smart interchange on the left wing between Daniel Cooke and Hope saw the latter cross for Tinning to head home. That was the signal for a five minute burst in which it seemed everyone was going to try and score. Chris Hill and Adam Lockett came close before Tinning found the net on 57 minutes. A move down the right involving Charlie Doyle and Cameron Horner set him up to shoot into the roof of the net from the edge of the box. Horner pounced to make it 6-2 two minutes later, breaking through the Buxton back line and chipping over the keeper. Martin got his second five minutes later to make it seven.

Buxton could have pulled a goal back with ten minutes to go as Bradbury hit the crossbar, but it was Tinning who completed the scoring with his hat-trick. Cooke broke down the left and found Jake Shawcross who pulled the ball back from the by-line for a straight forward finish. Cooke and Lockett had efforts saved afterwards as the reds strived for the double figure score line that their efforts could easily have achieved.
