FC United of Manchester Academy ’A’ team’s penultimate pre-season warm-up game ahead of the start of the 2019-2020 season ended up with a comprehensive 7-0 home win against Maleth Albion FC, a touring team from Malta, on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Friday afternoon.

The opening goal came on 15 minutes, team captain CALLUM SMITH heading home from a Connor McAndrew right wing cross, the ball finding the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.

On 19 minutes, it was 2-0, the livewire YUSUF QUDUS finishing from just inside the six yard box.

The third goal came on 29 minutes, Christian Edokpayi sent in a teasing cross from the left, with YUSUF QUDUS again applying the finishing touch.

Three minutes from half-time and the Young Reds added a fourth. This time the cross from the left was from Inioluwa Gbadegesin whose effort was turned into his own goal by a visiting defender.

The Maltese team did have the ball in the net at the right end on 45 minutes, but unfortunately for them, the goal was chalked off for offside,

Into the second half and FC United went 5-0 up on 59 minutes, The visiting goalkeeper failed to hold onto a low Connor McAndrew shot and YUSUF QUDUS was on hand to complete his hat-trick.

A leaping header from substitute KELLY OSADEBAWEN from a Connor McAndrew corner made it 6-0 on 72 minutes before a through ball from Iaia Balde allowed KELLY OSADEBAWEN to grab a second with seven minutes remaining.

FC United of Manchester Academy ’A’ team’s final pre-season fixture is next Wednesday 18th September 2019 when they host International House (Manchester) on the Broadhurst Park 3G (KO 1.00 p.m.)
