Match Report
In a potentially table topping clash with a free scoring Curzon Ashton, the Reserves came away from the Tameside Stadium with a 3-2 victory. Two goals from Jack Tinning and one from Dean Hope trumped strikes from jack Turner and Mamoke Akauna.

FC United took the lead in the second minute; a Dean Hope corner reached Jack Tinning at the far post and he headed home unchallenged. Further chances came and went as the reds started brightly, a Hope shot went just wide and a Tinning free kick was saved by Cameron Mason in the home goal. It was Curzon who struck next as in the 20th minute as the reds defence was split by a fine pass that allowed Turner to shoot in off the far post.

The home side had marginally the better of the rest of the first half although neither defence was tested until added time. When Akauna spun in from the right wing and prodded the home side into an interval lead.

Curzon Ashton had the better of the early second half exchanges with three half chances in the first five minutes. FC United then swapped Chris Hill for Roger Degue and changed the formation, this made a difference and in the 60th minute Degue was fouled in the box and Jack Tinning stepped up and fired home the penalty. Tinning, who had a small problem and was waiting to be substituted was then swapped for Frank van Gils. As the game was about to be restarted the assistant on the far side from the dugouts requested the attention of the referee and the result was a red card for the Curzon keeper. The game restarted some three minutes after the penalty was taken.

The winning goal came in the 69th minute as van Gils crossed for Dean Hope to fire home through a crowd of bodies which included Mike Norton who was stood in front of Jordan Latham who had come on to play in the home goal. Their bench called for an offside decision as the ball went past Norton but had failed to notice a defender on the goal-line. Norton could have added to the score two minutes later, heading a cross over after an exchange between Degue and Dan Cooke.

Curzon Ashton had a headed goal disallowed for offside and FC had Nathan Chorlton sent off for two cautions, the second of which seemed harsh as he appeared to be fouled first but the referee decided otherwise. Jacob Holt vollied a clearance back goal-ward from over thirty yards which Latham gathered as it was dropping under the crossbar but despite some seven minutes added time Curzon couldn’t find an equaliser and the reds held out for what ultimately was a deserved three points.
