CITY of LIVERPOOL YOUTH 4 FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 1
FC United of Manchester Youth crashed out of the FA Youth Cup at the First Qualifying Round stage following this 1-4 away defeat against City of Liverpool Youth at Villa Park, Wallasey (Ashville FC) on Wednesday night.

This was despite the Young Reds taking the lead inside the opening 16 seconds when SAM IWEGBU dispossessed the City of Liverpool defence and netted comfortably.

The home side were back on level terms within little more than a minute, however. A set piece into the penalty box fell invitingly for full back MATTY GRIFFITHS who made no mistake from the edge of the area.

On 11 minutes, it was 2-1 to City of Liverpool Youth. Another set piece into the eighteen yard area went unchallenged allowing JULES HAMILTON the freedom of the penalty area to glance the ball home.

On 37 minutes, the home side went 3-1 up. A deflected free-kick fell nicely for CONNOR FORSHAW to further extend City of Liverpool’s lead just before the break.

FC United’s Max Lewens did have the ball in the net on 39 minutes, but his curling shot was adjudged to have been marginally offside.

If the scoreline at the half-time interval looked a little harsh, FC United did have their chances in the second half. Max Lewens forced a fine save from home ’keeper Ethan Sansbury on 55 minutes, and Dillon Kirkman blazed over just three minutes later when it perhaps looked easier to score.

With the Young Reds pressing for a goal in the closing stages, a breakaway attack by City of Liverpool on 87 minutes found substitute DAVID McCONNELL whose fine looping header made sure of the final result, 4-1 in favour of the home side.

FC United of Manchester Youth are back in action with an away trip to AFC Fylde Youth on Wednesday 26th September 2018.
