Match Report
FC United’s Youth Team were held to another goalless draw at Ashton Athletic. Despite dominating possession the reds were unable to find the cutting edge that would have given them the win. On a dry sandy and distinctly uneven surface chances came and went without the Ashton defence being seriously troubled.

The opening seconds saw Gage Eme break clear of the defence but unable to get a shot on target. The story was the same, time after time throughout the first half when the best chance was when a shot cum cross from John Buckley, after a neat exchange with Gage, was deflected by an Ashton foot onto the woodwork. Ashton themselves failed to create a single chance in the opening period.

The home side did rectify that at the start of the second half when they created two good shooting chances, but were equally wasteful. That was in truth the limit of the Ashton threat as FC quickly regained control of the game without actually scoring. The ball did end up in the Ashton net after 51 minutes when the confusion created by a Shaun Williams cross caused what looked to be a straight forward own goal scoring slice. Unfortunately the referee saw some kind of offence and disallowed it.

The remainder of the half saw FC pushing forward looking for a winner only to be frustrated by their own inability to master the conditions and a large number of offside decisions, some of which looked more than a little kind towards the home defence from the dug out.
