On Tuesday 8th August, kick off 7:45pm, FC United welcome Spennymoor Town to Broadhurst Park in the first National League North home match of the 2017/18 season. Admission is pay on the gate: £10 Adults, £6 Concessions and £3 u/18s.

This will be the first time the two sides have met following Spennymoor’s two promotions in three years from the Northern Premier League Division One to the Premier Division and subsequent promotion to the National League North.

Like FC United, Spennymoor Town FC was born in the summer of 2005. The formation followed the demise of both UniBond Premier Division club Spennymoor United AFC and Northern League Second Division club Evenwood Town FC.

Out of the gloom, people were working hard to get the club back on track and the supporters formed an independent group with the intention of putting a club together as a supporters trust. Evenwood Town, who were also having great difficulties, had ambitions to move to the Brewery Field and both groups submitted their plans to the local council. Following an historic meeting at the Penny Gill in Spennymoor the supporters agreed to stand down and let the Evenwood proposal proceed. The Northern League and FA approved the plan; that Evenwood Town would take the name of Spennymoor Town FC and play at the Brewery Field in Spennymoor United’s colours of Black & White stripes.

In 2005, Spennymoor Town started life in the Northern League Division Two and were promoted to Division One for the 2007/08 season. Despite winning the league in three consecutive seasons (2009–10, 2010–11, 2011–12), the club did not apply for promotion as they wanted to be financially stable before they took the next step up. In 2013/14 they eventually gained promotion to the Northern Premier League Division One where they would finish in 5th place but lost to Darlington in the Play-off Semi-Final. The following year they finished 2nd and won the play-offs to gain promotion to the Premier Division. Last season Spennymoor once again finished runners up (to Blyth Spartans) and beat Stourbrdge in the Play-off Final to reach the National League North.

For FC United, there has been much change in personnel over the summer months with lots of new young players joining the club plus the return of two former players Craig Lindfield and Lewis Lacy (now as a centre forward). Apart from Lindfield and Lacy, only Tom Greaves remains from the squad that won us promotion to the National League North in 2015. Greaves is now only 7 goals away from becoming FC United’s highest goalscorer hoping to surpass Rory Patterson’s tally of 99 goals.

In our first two seasons in the National League North we finished in 13th place. This season there will be a further incentive of finishing higher in the league, with the top team securing automatic promotion and six play-off places to compete for.

NEW CLUB SHOP

Over the summer we have converted an area of the Main Office to incorporate a Club Shop. The shop is accessible at the front of the ground to the right of the Main Entrance. As well as the usual hats, scarves and badges, we will also be selling the home and away replica shirts (shorts and socks) and a range of T-shirts and jackets.

The new shop will replace Megastall that was previously situated inside the ground.

Alternatively you can order these from the FC United Online shop
WWW.FCUMSHOP.CO.UK

FREE WIFI

We have free WiFi at Broadhurst Park for all supporters to use. Supplied by local company Pennine Telecom, to access the service just search for FCUM-FreeWiFi, select it and set up a user account.

TRAVEL TO BROADHURST PARK

We advise that all supporters read the travel information and make a note of where traffic marshals will ask you to refrain from parking.

For travel information please see our TRAVEL HUB

FREE SHUTTLE BUS FROM CITY CENTRE

This season we will be operating a FREE shuttle bus from the Hare and Hounds Pub at Shudehill in Manchester, stopping at the Railway Pub adjacent to Newton Heath/Moston Metrolink Station before completing the trip to Broadhurst Park.

However for mid-week games (and for the Spennymoor match) the shuttle bus will only run from the Railway Pub at Newton Heath / Moston Metrolink stop, so fans travelling from Manchester are advised to either get the tram (and then shuttle bus) or catch the 181/182 buses which stops outside the ground.

After the match the shuttle buses will only run to the Newton Heath / Moston Metrolink stop, departing from Lightbowne Road. (This will apply for both Saturday and midweek matches)

NORMAL BUSES

Supporters travelling from Manchester city centre can use buses 181 or 182 which depart at regular intervals from Stand F on Lever Street. These buses stop right outside the ground at the top end of St. Mary’s Road.

Returning to Manchester the buses run at regular intervals from St. Mary’s Road.

Click here to download the 181/182 bus timetable

METROLINK

The nearest tram stop is Newton Heath and Moston on the Victoria to Rochdale line. It is a 15 or 20 minute walk up to the ground, or you can catch the FREE shuttle bus which departs from the Railway Pub opposite the Metrolink station at regular intervals.

TRAINS

Trains run between Manchester Victoria and Moston Train Station departing at 26 minutes past the hour arriving at Moston at 33 minutes past the hour. The ground is approximately 15 minutes’ walk from Moston Train Station. Trains return to Manchester every hour at 03 minutes past the hour.

BY CAR

From Central Manchester
From central Manchester head out of town on the A62 Oldham Road until the junction with Monsall Road. Turn left and pass Central Park Metrolink on your left and take the next right at the roundabout and follow the road ahead straight across another roundabout which takes you onto Lightbowne Road. Follow the road for around half a mile and you will see Broadhurst Park on your right hand side.

From the M60 – Clockwise
If travelling via the motorway network from the north and west, head for the M60 Manchester ring road. Leave the M60 at junction 20, then turn onto the A664. At the traffic signals turn left onto the A6104. Travel straight on and then at the Greengate roundabout take the 4th exit onto Lightbowne Road, the B6393. Carry straight on for around a half a mile and Broadhurst Park is on your left.

From the M60 - Anti-clockwise
If travelling via the motorway network from the south and east, head for the M60 Manchester ring road. Leave the M60 at junction 22, then straight on to Hollingwood Avenue, the A6104 . Travel straight on and then at the Greengate roundabout take the 1st exit onto Lightbowne Road, the B6393. Carry straight on for around a half a mile and Broadhurst Park is on your left.

CAR PARKING

We would urge supporters to use the car parks we have available for a charge of £5.00 at the ground and for £3.00 at the nearby St Mathews School, only 3 minutes’ walk of the ground.

We are under a duty to ensure areas such as St Mary’s Road and the north of Nuthurst Road are not used by visitors to Broadhurst Park.

Supporters should be mindful that there is no parking on:

- St Mary’s Road and the streets off St Mary’s Road;

- Nuthurst Road;

- the West side of Moston Lane and the streets off it.

We can always use more volunteers to act as traffic marshals and indeed for a number of matchday functions, so if you can help, send an email to John Davies johndavies@fc-utd.co.uk or telephone the office on 0161 769 2005 and leave a phone number for him to contact you to discuss.

Enjoy the game.
