The sporting community of Greater Manchester is coming together to make a stand against Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE).

During the national week of action 19-25 June 2017, the City of Manchester Protect team are holding a series of events, from free training for coaches, teachers and volunteers to coaching sessions and online safety workshops for young people.

Greater Manchester Police, Manchester City Council, the NHS and Barnardos are working with Manchester City Football Club, FC United Of Manchester, the UK Cheerleading Association, British Cycling, Greater Sport and many more to increase understanding of CSE and the steps that can be taken to identify the signs and provide support.

On Friday 23rd June FC United’s Tom Conroy, Jack Dickenson and the community coaches will be hosting a number of active sessions for about 60 Primary School children on the 3G pitch at Broadhurst Park.

The group will be split in half. One group will be out on the pitch with our coaches and the other group will be in the classroom with the GMP being given information with regards to the Child Sexual Exploitation week and the ‘Its Not Okay’ scheme.

Tom Conroy (speaking on the video below) and Dickenson visited the open day of the ‘Its Not Okay In Sport’ scheme and spoke to several media organisations.

About the ‘It’s Not Okay’ campaign

The ‘It’s Not Okay’ campaign is a collaboration of public and third sector partners throughout Greater Manchester. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation (CSE), help people to recognise the signs of CSE, encourage people to report it and provide support to victims and those most at risk.

This year we are focusing on Greater Manchester sports community – coaches, players and sports clubs are teaming up with police, charities and local authorities to send out a clear message to communities that CSE has no place in sport.
Greater Manchester is a fantastic place for sport and we want to celebrate it while ensuring it is a safe space for children and young people.

We want to ensure that staff within sporting communities, no matter what their role, understand how to identify the signs of CSE and what to do if they encounter it, ensuring young people know how to report CSE and where they can go for the support they need.
Children and young people may choose to confide in their coach and it is vital therefore that staff know how to respond to a child who may turn to them for help.

A week of activity has been planned by police and partners to help raise the awareness of CSE with those who play, watch or coach sport by delivering training sessions, hosting information stalls at local leisure centres and speaking to young players about the issue.

Sports clubs will be encouraged to sign and display an ‘It’s Not Okay’ charter, reinforcing their commitment to tackling and preventing child sexual exploitation from happening within their sports club.
