On Saturday 29th October, kick-off 3pm, FC United welcome Gloucester City to Broadhurst Park in the National League North. Saturday is People United Day where the club celebrates the diversity of our local community. Admission is pay on the gate: £9 Adults, £5 Conc, £2 u/18s.

It seems a long time since our last home match against Alfreton where we won 4-3. Since then, we had a great 2-0 win away at Kidderminster, a 6-0 away win at Chadderton in the Manchester Premier Cup, but suffered two defeats in the league against Telford and Halifax.

On Saturday we welcome 7th placed Gloucester City to Broadhurst Park. It promises to be a cracking, heart-warming day as the club hosts its annual People United Day.

Also taking place on Saturday is a bit of apple pressing and juicing to make our very own Moston Cider; we’ve our regular Board Surgery plus an FC Supporters with Disabilities Meeting taking place in the Main Function Room; and after the game there’s a charity match taking place on the 3G Pitch.

Saturday also sees the start of the collections for Big Coat Day, where we are encouraging fans to donate coats, warm clothing and footwear to help the homeless over the winter months.

PEOPLE UNITED DAY

People United Day is the club’s annual celebration of the diversity of our local community and reinforces our proud and principled commitment to develop strong links with that community and be accessible to all and discriminate against none.

It provides a welcome reminder that racism or any other form of discrimination will not be tolerated at FC United because we believe that all people should be able to enjoy football without fear of intimidation or abuse.

ALAN HENNING CHARITY MATCH

This year’s People United Day will also feature a special friendly match between a team from United Glasgow FC, comprised largely of refugees and a team from the Freedom from Torture charity and will take place on the 3G pitch adjacent to the ground following FC United’s match against Gloucester City.

Freedom from Torture provide clinical support, including medical consultations and psychological therapies, for victims of torture who arrive in the UK as asylum seekers having endured the kind of pain and suffering that the rest of us can probably barely imagine.

One of the many strands of FC United’s community work involves a group from Freedom from Torture attending weekly football sessions at Broadhurst Park. The eight regular attendees plus three others will make up their team on the day.

United Glasgow FC was formed in 2011 to primarily help refugees and asylum seekers but they now welcome players from all nationalities, genders and walks of life bringing together individuals with a shared love of football who may otherwise never have met. Just like FC United they take a principled stance against all forms of discrimination and are committed to providing affordable football.

MOSTON CIDER

Before the match on Saturday, The FC Diggers along with friends from Make Britain Blossom & the Moss Cider Project are pressing and juicing the apples from the Cider Apple Trees located at Broadhurst Park.

However, we’ve not got quite enough apples from our trees to kick start our first attempt to make some Moston Cider. So we asking if supporters can bring donations of any spare apples to the ground on Saturday. Apple donations from 12 noon onwards. The pressing will start at 1pm.

BOARD SURGERY

Between 12.15pm and 1.15pm in the Main Stand Bar, Board Members Peter Thwaites and Adrian Seddon will be available to answer any questions that FC members have about the Club.

FC UNITED SUPPORTERS WITH DISABILITIES MEETING

Between 1pm and 2pm Roy Williamson will be hosting a meeting to hear the views of our own supporters with disabilites around their match day experiences at Broadhurst Park. The meeting will be held in the Main Stand Bar.

We will discuss travel/car parking, reception, disabled areas in the ground, stewarding, facilities and any other issue that people feel is relevant. A summary of the matchday experience in fact.

This is an open invitation to supporters who have a disability, their helpers, family members, friends and anyone with an interest in this initiative.

BIG COAT COLLECTION STARTS ON SATURDAY

As the nights draw in and we ponder the sartorial dilemma of when to start wearing a big coat to the match there is, of course, another reason why big coats should be at the forefront of our thoughts around this time of year. Big Coat Day, our collection of coats, warm clothing and footwear to distribute to homeless people, has been a regular, and hugely popular, feature of FC United’s community work over the last eleven years.

Now that we have our own ground and storage space we are keen to spread the effort over a number of match days starting with the home game against Gloucester City on Saturday.

So if you have any spare items of warm winter clothing or footwear that you would like to donate to this season’s Big Coat Day (in reasonable condition of course) then you can bring them along to the match on Saturday or any other home matches up to (and including) the final collection at Big Coat Day itself on Sunday 1st January 2017..

BARS AND FOOD

Access to the Function Room Bar in the Main Stand is via the main reception from 12 noon until the turnstiles open at approximately 1pm by payment of the match admission price, or on production of the relevant Season Ticket voucher.

After the turnstiles open, entry to the function room will be via turnstiles 1 to 6 or 9 to 12 and then through the seated area of the main stand.

The Function Room Bar will serve hot food together with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks before the match. Alcohol will not be sold in the function room at half time but soft drinks, teas and coffees and food will be available.

The bottle bar under the St Mary’s Road End terrace will be open before the match and again at half time. Please note this is strictly a No Smoking Area.

Other food outlets are situated inside and outside serving up a variety of choices:
  • Under the Main Stand Food Bar will serve hot food prepared by our chef and pies from Mettricks and non-alcoholic drinks.
  • Fat Annies located between the North Stand and SMRE will serve gourmet hot dogs.
  • Herbies located outside the Main Stand/SMRE corner will serve hot food and non-alcoholic drinks. (also accessible during half time).

    MATCH PROGRAMME

The Match programme is priced at £2 and available to buy from sellers outside and inside the ground.

    POUND FOR THE GROUND TICKETS

We are still raising money for the club’s Development Fund, as there’s still parts of the ground we still need to complete. The quickest and easiest way is to buy a Pound for the Ground ticket at £1 each at Saturday’s match.

Your ticket will be entered into the draw, to be drawn at half time, where the winners win £200, the runner up wins £50 and for the 3rd prize winner a fudge hamper.

    MERCHANDISE

The Megastall will once again be open and located inside the ground between the Main Stand and the St. Mary’s Road End. As well as the usual hats, scarves and badges, we will also be selling the home and away replica shirts (shorts and socks) and a range of T-shirts and jackets.

Alternatively you can order these from the FC United Online shop
    WWW.FCUMSHOP.CO.UK

    FREE WIFI

We have free WiFi at Broadhurst Park for all supporters to use. Supplied by local company Pennine Telecom, to access the service just search for FCUM-FreeWiFi, select it and set up a user account.

    CAR PARKING

We require people to assist as Traffic Marshals to help advise fans as to where to and not park. If you could lend a hand please contact the office on 0161 769 2005 or email office@fc-utd.uk

Parking is very limited at the ground and supporters using the Club’s car park should be aware of lots of youngsters who may be in that area. Also, supporters should be mindful that there is no parking on:
  • St Mary’s Road and the streets off St Mary’s Road;
  • Nuthurst Road;
  • the West side of Moston Lane and the streets off it.

For £3, there is safe parking at St Matthew’s RC High School, which is less than five minutes’ walk away from the ground.

    PUBLIC TRANSPORT

The nearest tram stop is Newton Heath and Moston on the Victoria to Rochdale line. It is a 15 or 20 minute walk up to the ground, but there is a shuttle bus from the Railway pub (turn right at the top of the tram stop steps).

FOOTBALL SPECIAL BUSES FROM CITY CENTRE

There will also be two football special buses running from Stevenson Square in the city centre to the ground. The buses are operated by First Buses and they leave from Stop TE in Stevenson Square.

Departure times are at 2pm and 2.20pm

The cost is £1.50 single. No return tickets available.

Buses leave Broadhurst Park after the game when they are full. Departure is approximately five minutes after the final whistle, from Lightbowne Road.
