Mike Norton Set To Leave FC

Mike Norton Set To Leave FCMike Norton has asked to be released in order that he can join Curzon Ashton.

Mike made 221 appearances for FC United, scoring 93 times in all competitions to make him the 2nd highest goalscorer in the club’s history. Norts, as he was known affectionately by the squad, had a fully committed style and never-say-die attitude which rapidly made him a fans’ favourite. Fans will probably remember him most for his exploits on the evening of 5th November 2010 when he scored that last gasp winner that sealed a famous victory at Rochdale in the first round of that year’s FA Cup.

Karl Marginson commented: “We didn’t want Norts to go but understand that he wants to play first team football. He feels that he has completed his rehab and is fully fit. After consultation with our medical staff, reserve team management and drawing on my experience, I didn’t feel that he was yet at the level to resume playing first team football.??? Karl went on to say: “Norts will go down as a legend at the club and, on a personal level, I can say that he is one of the best people I have ever had the pleasure to work with – both on and off the pitch.???

All at the club thank Mike for the many happy memories that he leaves behind and wish him well in the next stage of his career.
