Champion Reds win at Liversedge

FC United travelled to Liversedge and came away with the three points after a 6-1 win. Two goals each from Jean Biansumba and Tunde Owolabi alongside strikes from David Kuba Kuba and Jason Fowles secured victory and allowed the lads to bask in the title of Lancashire League East Division Champions.

The reds started quickly and Owolabi had already hit the post before opening the scoring on six minutes. A cross from the right had seemed to go beyond him but, ever alert he pounced on an under hit back pass to fire home. It was nearly two three minutes later as Kial Callacher headed just wide from a free kick as he tried to get his first of the season and Owolabi was equally unlucky after Poizer and Cheetham had combined to cross from the left.

It was 2-0 on 24 minutes when the ever industrious Scott Cheetham threaded a pass through for Biansumba to get beyond the defence and shoot past the keeper at the near post. A similar pass for Owolabi three minutes later was equally well finished but ruled out for offside. Owolabi could have made it three after 33 minutes as he found himself one on one with the with Danny King in the home goal. However the keeper parried the first shot and managed to hold on to a second effort. Not that the third goal was delayed for long as David Kuba Kuba provided an finish for a fine Jason Fowles cross after a neat exchange with Cheetham.

It was 4-0 five minutes before half time as Frank van Gils was fouled and a penalty was awarded. He had been unlucky not to get on the end of a Poizer cross but worked to recover the ball out on the right wing and get back into the area. Owolabi despatched the kick low to the keepers right. Liversedge, who had tried to match FC in playing football on the floor, had their best chance just before the break as Lamin Janneh tested Chris Taylor.

The second half was slightly quieter as Liversedge were better organised defensively, restricting the number of FC chances whilst trying to get forward themselves. FC made it 5-0 after 52 minutes, Jason Fowles, getting forward from full back, pressurised the back four into a mistake and burst through, curling a shot round King and into the far post. Owolabi had a chance to complete his hat-trick mid way through the half as he was played in from the left wing. He chipped the keeper from the corner of the box but his effort was off target.

FC United continued to press forward, Cheetham and van Gils having chances but firing wide. Mike Taylor had a chance to reprise his Ossett Albion free kick on 80 minutes, but this time was just to high. Danny Kean then stunned everyone with the goal of the night to pull one back for Liversedge. cutting in from the right, his shot from the corner of the box curled high in to the far corner of Taylors goal. However that was sufficient to sting FC into one more strike. Owolabi and Biansumba broke into the area and whilst both were desperate to score it was Biansumba who got the final touch.

The lads complete their league season at Ossett Town a week on Saturday and then focus on making it a league and cup double as they travel to Lancaster for the semi final on May 1st.
