Match Report
FC Youth At Home Sweet Home????

As a result of the terrible winter just gone, many teams are finding themselves with a fixture backlog, and so it is with the FC United Youth Team. This is why on a Wednesday night when the first team are playing at Gigg Lane and St Brides is otherwise engaged we found ourselves on the the 3G pitch at MANCAT playing Nantwich Town. This fixture was originally scheduled for the day we had the last snow storm. Though spare some sympathy for Nantwich who would have had to dig themselves out of six inches of the stuff. Anyway enough of that let’s get on to what really matters, the football.

FC United were quickest out of the blocks, not surprising as problems on the M6 had given rise to a two hour journey for half the Nantwich squad. The starting strike partnership of Gage Eme and Dylan Moloney had created a handful of chances before they took the lead in the 11th minute. Andy Graham charged down the right and crossed into the box for Dylan Moloney to shoot. He is adamant his shot was on target and should therefore claim the goal, so he does. A deflection of a Nantwich defender helped to leave Stuart Plant in goal helpless and your correspondent on the sidelines, in no position to say Dylan was wrong.

Further chances came and went, including Dylan hitting the bar before Nantwich threatened the FC goal. In the 20th minute a free kick found its way to the far post where a Nantwich shot was smattly asved by Thomas Siwka. On the half hour mark Nantwich had a corner which saw a scramble in the FC box before being cleared and Luke Kolakowski saw a sharp drive saved at the right end.

The second half saw a much more competitive game with Nantwich appearing to do everything but score. One such effort saw a Nantwich free kick narrowly clear the bar. Then a goal kick from Thomas Siwka was met by Dylan who quickly helped the ball beyond the Nantwich back four, Gage was the quickest to react and managed to slip the ball past the keeper and into the net. It was nearly three soon afterwards when another pass forward looking for substitute Roshgar Mousa was headed clear by a defender ahead of the advancing keeper. The clearance fell to Gage and he was quick to try and lob the keeper, sadly the shot also cleared the crossbar.

Nantwich continued to press for a way back into the game but without success and the game finished 2-0 to FC.

FC United of Manchester
Thomas Siwka, Andy Graham, Jake Haslam, Jordan Dainty, Ferre Edwards, Scott Cheetham, Luke Kolakowski (Roshgar Mousa), Josh Burke, Gage Eme, Dylan Moloney, Carl Fitton (Paul McIntyre).
Goals: Dylan Molney and Gage Eme.
Apologies are due to Carl Fitton who in the game at Curzon made the lung bursting run for the assist for the fourth goal rather than Andy Graham as had been previously credited.
