Match Report
FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 3 MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY 1

FC United of Manchester Youth opened their National League U19 Alliance league programme with this 3-1 home win against Manchester Metropolitan University at a sun-drenched Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday afternoon.

After Will Shawcross had seen a 34th minute goalbound effort tipped over the crossbar, the Young Reds opened the scoring just two minutes later, Shawcross dinking a clever pass to CAMERON HORNER who collected the ball before scooping it past Callum Pugh in the away goal from close range.

1-0 was the score at half-time with MMU’s Josh Baker having been stretchered off with a suspected broken collar bone just before the interval.

On 52 minutes, it was 2-0 for the home side when Cameron Horner was tripped inside the penalty area, and WILL SHAWCROSS made no mistake with the resulting spot-kick which was crashed high into the net.

On 81 minutes, the Young Reds made sure of the result when WILL SHAWCROSS’s deflected twenty yard shot found the back of the MMU goal.

There was still time for a late consolation for the visitors, WILLIAM NOWELL taking advantage of hesitancy in the home defence to nip around the back and pull one back on 87 minutes, but that was to be the end of the scoring.

FC United of Manchester Youth’s next fixture is their FA Youth Cup 1st Qualifying Round tie away at Ashton Town AFC Youth on Thursday 22nd September 2016 (Kick-off: 7.30 p.m.)
