Match Report
FC United remain six points clear of the relegation zone despite losing 2-1 at Stockport County on Saturday afternoon in front of a league record crowd of 5,630 supporters.

It was the home side who started brighter of the two sides, they kept the ball well and looked dangerous in attack, with many crosses from the bright rightback Sam Minihan just missing their targets.

It was Minihan who had the first shot on goal but that easily saved by the returning David Carnell. FC United couldn’t get any passing movement going at all and were restricted to long shots that didn’t trouble the Stockport keeper.

On 28 minutes, The Hatters should have taken the lead when a cross from Kaine Felix was poorly headed wide by Josh Amis. Right on half time Stockport took the lead when a throw-in from the right found Elliot Osbourne who fired home.

The FC United bench felt aggrieved as they felt that Harry Winter was elbowed in the build up and was off the pitch getting treatment as the goal was scored.

The second half started in the same way as the first with the home side in the ascendancy. Amis again headed over when well placed. Carnell was again brought into action soon after saving well from Danny Lloyd.

Just after the hour mark, FC had their first sight of goal as Nathan Lowe found Winter who powered his way into the box and fired a shot that was well saved by Ben Hinchcliffe.

A minute later Amis had another chance but Carnell again saved well. On 71 mins the lead was extended as the ball was played into the box and found sub Scott Duxbury who saw his shot wrong foot Carnell and roll into the net.

Just three minutes later FC were handed a lifeline when a throw in was handled by a defender. Jerome Wright fired the penalty home to give FC unlikely hope but this didn’t materialise as Stockport continued to attack, Lloyd and Carnell continuing their personal duel, with the FC custodian making two great saves.

A poor day for FC was topped off in the final minute when Chris Chantler was sent off for an elbow on Minihan.

Website man of the match - David Carnell. The returning keeper kept the score respectable in the second half with a series of great saves.
