FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 4 SALFORD UNIVERSITY 5

FC United Youth went down to a narrow 4-5 home defeat against Salford University F.C. in this close-fought, end-of-season youth team friendly match on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Monday afternoon.

FC United Youth took the lead inside the second minute when KEENAN TUCK was in the right place to sweep the ball home inside the penalty area, this from a pin-point Jack O’Leary centre.

On 8 minutes, the young Reds went 2-0 up when centre-forward HAYDON MOTTERSHEAD was left free to smash the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

On 20 minutes, the visitors got a goal back when Reece Devante steered the ball home through a crowded penalty area.

And on 27 minutes, it was 2-2 when Matt King’s long range effort found the back of the net via one of the uprights leaving home goalkeeper Nick Dominick completely helpless.

Nine minutes into the second half and Alfin Alan put Salford University ahead with a deflected shot, and on 62 minutes, the same player added a second from a close range header to make it 2-4 for the university team.

And on 67 minutes, Vegaard Eltervag chested home a fifth goal from a corner to make it 2-5 in favour of the visitors.

A couple of late substitutions seemed to revive FC United Youth’s fortunes in the final quarter of an hour, and on 76 minutes, MICHAEL JONES pulled one back for the young Reds with a 30 yard effort that crashed in off the crossbar to make it 3-5, and on 83 minutes, JACK WARD made it 4-5 with a well struck long range free-kick.

FC United Youth tried their utmost to pull a further goal back in the closing minutes, but Salford University held fast to secure a well-deserved win.
