Match Report
Curzon Ashton came to Broadhurst Park and went away with three points in a 3-1 win which in truth their efforts merited. A Connor Martin strike just before half time was the best though by no means all a young reds line up could offer.

The visitors started brightly, determined to make up for the FC United win at the Tameside Stadium. Their number 11, Oghene Akaunu operating on the right wing was causing all sorts of problems for the home defence, breaking from half way in the eighth minute and seeing his shot saved. A free kick in the tenth minute saw the ball bounce troublingly in the home penalty area for too long before being cleared.

Eventually the reds found a way into the game and were ultimately value for the half time lead. A free kick from Will Shawcross was headed over by Dan Cooke after a Martin burst forward in the 18th minute was the first sign. Shawcross seemed to be everywhere, breaking up play in midfield and breaking forward. Often having the final touch as chance after chance was created.

FC United took the lead in the 37th minute, Martin forced a corner from which a clearance header found him on the edge of the box. His shot forward was fumbled by the Curzon keeper and clawed away but not before crossing the line as adjudged by the referee.

It could have been 2-0 soon afterwards; Shawcross took a quick free kick to set Cooke off down the line and into the corner. He was then on hand to create space and his cross was headed narrowly wide by Roger Degue.

The second half was a complete reversal of fortune as the reds started brightly and Curzon worked hard to find a way back into the game. Benito Lowe and Brad Mclaughlin came close early on but they dominated the final quarter of the game.

In the 67th minute a ball played into space for players to chase was cleared into touch by Ben Jupp. Unfortunately the reds failed to defend the throw in and Danny Tavares was able to equalise.

Chris Hill was just wide with a free kick and a Martin chip over the keeper also just cleared the cross bar either side of a disallowed goal for Curzon Ashton but the last ten minutes belonged to the visitors. On 82 minutes another throw in found Matthew Crothers who found time to turn and shoot home. Akaunu got a reward for his effort on 88 minutes as he found space behind a hesitant home defence and slotted past Jupp.
