Match Report
FC United came away from their second game of the pre-season programme with a goalless draw at Sheffield FC on Tuesday evening after a really tough game against the Northern Premier Division One South outfit at the Coach and Horses Ground in South Yorkshire.

The Reds visited the world’s oldest football club knowing that despite the two division gap between the teams the home team would provide stiff opposition and that’s exactly what happened.

It was a tight affair with many of the players still struggling for the final touch in last third of the pitch. Despite this, there was positive performances on the pitch, with Tom Greaves looking dangerous forcing the home ‘keeper into a couple of good reaction saves in the first half.

The starting XI had a familiar look to it with eight players from last season starting the game alongside new signings Greg Wilkinson and Sean Cooke in midfield, as well as central defender Nia Bayunu who looked at home at the heart of the defence alongside Lewis Lacy, imposing himself on the game from the off.

Wholesale changes at halftime took a bit of the sting out the game, as is often the case with friendlies and United were limited to half chances throughout the half and had to thank goalkeeper Nick Culkin for a couple of good saves that saw them come away with a draw.

So, another good test for the Reds as they look to build momentum for the upcoming season, next up for the first team is Buxton away on Saturday, after a team of past players celebrate the 10th anniversary of our first fixture against Leigh RMI when they play Leigh Genesis on Thursday evening.

Sheffield FC: Maxted, Ludlam, Turner, Paul, Okoye, Knowles, Lufudu, Raheem, Iglehon, Joblon ©, Gregory. Subs: Kray-Batousol, Glavin, Dua, Hird.

FC United of Manchester: Culkin, Brownhill, Daniels, Birch ©, Bayunu, Lacy, Fallon, Wilkinson, Greaves, Wright, Cooke. Subs: Murray, Boothman, Wallwyn, Williams, Gossett, Norton.

Website Man of the Match: Nick Culkin – Two great saves from the experienced goalkeeper in the second half kept FC United level in a close game.
